Portobello celebrates 30 years in 2025 as
the FREE UK Alternative Culture Film and Arts Festival.
Portobello Film Festival 2025 - 28 August - 14 September
Portobello Film & Art Festival showcases the best new movies: independent, hot off the edit suite, often low budget, fresh ideas uncompromised by corporate protocols. We do our best to screen all films submitted and give them a glamorous send off in London’s sexy Portobello Road.
Previous debutants at the Festival have included Guy Ritchie, Sarah Gavron, and Shane Meadows. Terry Gilliam, John Malkovich, Hanif Kureishi, Julien Temple, Anita Pallenberg, and Chris Cunningham have all introduced their work and offered masterclasses to the public.
The films are complimented by new work from top street artists like Inkie, Joe Rush, Eine, Nick Reynolds, Lucy Sparrow, Sickboy, and Dotmasters. Portobello are very proud to welcome Ralph Steadman as this year’s poster designer and exhibition of works at The Muse Gallery for the duration of the festival.
Entry to all films is free. Just turn up any time. The Muse has a licensed bar. Highlights this year include a Ralph Steadman doc on the opening night, a retrospective of local hero Robina Rose, films from Iran, America, Spain and Franc,.brand new UK movies - dramas, docs, comedies, a film on Sufi mystic Idris Shah, a bio of a man who took on Escobar (Lara); this is the frontline future of film today - over 200 independent films.
